FAQ

Who can attend?

Anyone can come! But every team must have at least one Columbia undergraduate student.

How large are teams?

2-4 people (sorry, no solo hacks!)

Do I have to start my project from scratch?

We want everyone to start on a level playing field. Feel free to come up with an idea beforehand, but please don't start working on it until after hacking kicks off. If you've got any pre-modified hardware and want to bring it, please contact us first.

Are first timers allowed?

Absolutely! We'll have plenty of workshops leading up to and during the hackathon. Starter projects and mentors will also be available! If you're eager to get started, check out these links.

Do I need to know who my team is before I come?

Yes. Before you register, make sure you have a team of 2-4 people, with at least one team member being a Columbia undergraduate student. You'll all register separately, but will be able to specify your other team members when you register.

What do I need to bring?

Bring your own laptop, charger, headphones, and any additional hardware that you want to hack on that isn't listed below. Come with the Arduino IDE preinstalled on your laptop. You might also want a sleeping bag, toothbrush, toothpaste, and deodorant. Please don't bring explosives, firearms, drugs, or alcohol.

Will travel reimbursement be provided?

Sorry, no travel reimbursement is available.

What hardware will be available?

Here are some of the things we plan to have:
Arduinos
ATmega328P Xplained Minis
Atmel SAM4L Xplained Starter Kits
Oscilloscopes
3D Printers
Feel free to bring your own hardware, too!
