Graduates, Faculty, and Officers Academic Procession

All Columbia University faculty and officers of administration are invited to march in the academic procession at University Commencement.  If you would like to process, please email sign up here.

Participants in the academic procession should assemble at the designated areas in Low Memorial Library by 10:00 a.m. on the morning of University Commencement.  Following the candidate procession, the academic procession will start at 10:30 a.m., formally beginning the exercises of the University Commencement ceremony.

Full academic regalia is required.  If you are participating in other individual school ceremonies, you may order regalia through your department.  If you need to rent or purchase regalia, please place your orders with the Columbia Bookstore in person or online at  by April 9.



Volunteering
Columbia University faculty and officers of administration may also participate in University Commencement by volunteering as an Event Host or Marshal.  For more information, click here.

Low Memorial Library has the largest all-granite dome in North America.  Above each of the sixteen columns in the Rotunda are pedestals for marble statues, only four of which were erected.  On the north side of the Rotunda, from left to right, are a copy of the Giustinian Euripides in the Vatican (donated by Charles McKim), a copy of the Vatican Demosthenes (donated by W. Bayard Cutting, 1869 CC), Sophocles, a copy of the statue in the Lateran Museum (donated by Dr. George G. Wheelock, 1864 CC), and Augustus Caesar, a copy of the statue in the Louvre (donated by F. Augustus Schermerhorn, CC 1868).
