Hadley Suter majored in French at Barnard before receiving her Ph.D. in 2015 from UCLA. Her dissertation, “Stendhal’s Theater of Authenticity: the Performance of le Naturel in the Para-Fictional Works of Marie-Henri Beyle,” traces Stendhal’s intellectual journey through the question of how to be—or pretend to be—one’s authentic self. She has also taught French language and cinema at UCLA.
