Cerf:

Oh, what do we know about China? He's a very good journalist.

When people call him a Communist, they forget that he spent years on the editorial staff of that “Communist” sheet the Saturday Evening Post!

Snow has been one of our more difficult authors because he hasn't got any small talk. He's a very sincere, honest man; and he believes very fervently in what he writes.

Q:

He should be published even if people don't agree with him. You've got to get different points of view.

Cerf:

I want to tell you about another famous author discovered by us--Mr. William Saroyan.

Q:

Okay. That's fine.

Cerf:

Saroyan came along, I think around 1935. It was about that--'34 or '35. I'll have to look and see what year The Daring Young Man was published.

Q:

How did you get him?

Cerf:

True Story Magazine. We sponsored Story. Have I told you about True Story Magazine?

Q:

Just a little bit. Now you might want to go into it more fully.
