me on the Abend show.

Q:

Let's identify this program more. It's a nightly news program

Koch:

It's on every night, Channel 5, at 10 o'clock, and I'm on once or twice a week. Others are on at other times. And it always appears within the first half hour, and it runs a total of two minutes, 30 seconds divided equally. Now, the first time I was on the show -- maybe the first or second time, I'm not sure exactly which -- I'm on a train. I'm going up to the Ukrainian Day parade where I'm going to be one of the leaders. And a black lady, late middle aged, in her sixties maybe, smiles, obviously recognizes me, and she approaches me and she says, “You're Congressman Koch. I know you.” And I said, “Yes.” She says, “I see you on the Abend show all the time.” I say, “How am I doing?” She says, “I'm with him. I'm law and order.” (laughs) But a big smile. Okay.

I'm walking up Fifth Avenue at 57th Street on a Saturday afternoon. A guy comes over to me, well-dressed. He says, “Excuse me, Congressman, but you are Congressman Koch, aren't you?” I say, “Yes.” He says, “I see you on the Abend show.” They always say that. That's how they refer to the news, as the Abend show. “I see you on the Abend show.” I say, How am I
