We finally got that through. Then we directed Packy Downey, our mediator, to meet with them to keep the peace.

I don't know who got this idea, but I guess it was Packy Downey. But that night I sent for Patton of the Bureau of Labor Statistics in New York to be there the next morning. Downey got the idea and conveyed it to me that perhaps the line we could settle on on wages was that they would meet prevailing wage rates in other copper industries in other towns. We would have to know what they were and the only way we could find it out was through the Bureau of Labor Statistics. So we got Patton up there.

We adjourned for the night. We all went home to bed. I began packing my bag, thinking that we would get off the
