now Sutton Place. They led the revival of Sutton Place. Anne Morgan fixed hers over beautifully, so did Ann Vanderbilt. Miss Marbury took up much smaller quarters. I think she took half of a house and fixed it up, renting part of it. It was charmingly done. They had lots of fun being a team together.

Miss Marbury had this great reputation. She was crazy about Al Smith. She liked him very much, as many people who never knew him well took to him. She was one of those. She was a pretty rough customer herself. She wasn't top-drawer, but she moved in top-drawer circles because she did parties for people and they were fun. She knew everybody and had lots to say.

She said to Al, “Give the girl a good wedding. Give her a big wedding, and Al, I'll attend to it. I'll see that everything is right - just right. You don't have to worry about it at all. I'll see that you have the best of everything. I'll see it's done right.”

Miss Marbury never spared expense, but she also knew what to do to make things go. It was her idea to get the man up from Washington to show you how protocol operates and have the distinguished guests seated in the proper order.
