forgotten by most people. The principal one was at Broadway and 9th Street, just opposite Wanamaker's, on an area which is now a garden of Grace Church. This was before a certain chapel that was built out into that area had been built. It was some kind of a gift to Grace Church and they built the property that was owned by Fleischmann. There was a building there and a great front sidewalk cafe. It was not on the public sidewalk, but on the open area leading to the sidewalk. It was a real cafe with bushes around it, little tables. It was a lovely cafe where you principally went to get Viennese coffee. I don't remember that they had anything to drink there. You got Viennese coffee, Viennese bread rolls of one kind or another and the most delicious pastry. It was a real Viennese cafe. You don't drink liquor in Viennese cafes, you drink coffee or chocolate. You drink in great cone-shaped cups coffee with whipped cream on top, which is strong and beautiful. They later moved across the street when Grace Church bought them out and they had a cafe there for years.

The same Fleischmann in addition to having brought that amount of civilization to New York as an immigrant, also brought the flower trade, which was very poor in the early days. Fleischmann was the first good florist. He had a great shop downtown on Broadway near Wall Street. Then he
