was also the General Counsel for some insurance company. I forget which one it was, but it was one of the big reinsurance companies. It was largely a financial supervision arrangement.

At that time I should have said that Mrs. Roosevelt didn't have his comeback in mind. Nothing that she ever said or did at that time gave me the slightest idea that she had in mind a political comeback for him that would lead to such an exalted position as the Presidency. She did have, of course, as any woman would have, a desire for his reentry into life and a great desire for his reentry into politics because politics had been the thing that had interested him most in life. Anything else that he had done in life had been a very trifling interest to him, but politics had been a major interest and preoccupation since he was very young. The Wilson administration period had further developed his political interest, of course. She certainly wanted him to go back into politics. Whether she had it in mind that he might be a Senator, whether she had it in mind that he might be Governor, I don't know.
