I have forgotten whether Mary Dewson joined us then or not. She later became the head of the Woman's Division of the Roosevelt campaign of '32. I don't think she was with us much in '24. I think she moved in later. I guess she moved in during the campaign of '28 when we campaigned for Roosevelt for Governor. She had something to do with the national campaign in '28 too, but I don't think she did in '24.

Mary Eben, who is still around, was the person who made up your traveling schedules, here, there or everywhere. She made up the schedules of speakers in the places that they would do best.

I had local duties. I was a public official and I couldn't give too much time to campaigning throughout the country. I did a good deal in the State of New York. We didn't have any Hatch Act there so far that I ever heard of. I never heard of the thing. You were supposed to campaign for the Governor if you thought he was any good and to say why. You were supposed to know why he was good. Of course I knew why he was good, with a whole battery of labor laws and social legislation to support me. The result of these reforms that he'd brought in were admirable. I didn't bother to go into his fiscal reforms or any other things, all of which were good. You could brag about the parks and
