intelligent man and had a good mind. I heard people say that. He was apparently good on some of the committee work when it came to redrafting a phrase or a clause in a bill. Walker had a good command of language and he knew what it meant. He could put down the words that meant what they intended to be meant.

I don't remember Walker as having any part at all in the Hylan administration.

The Democrats were having a hard time to find a candidate for mayor that suited them all. There was a great deal of pulling and hauling. Of the people mentioned nobody seemed to be just right. There was something against everybody. I don't even now remember who the people were that were mentioned in Tammany circles for the candidate for mayor. Certainly Walker was not among those who were mentioned publicly, or about whom there was much talk in the outside world or by the press.

Some parts of this I must have got from Mrs. Moskowitz, because certainly I never was in on the Tammany Hall leaders' conference. I'm not sure that she did, but she was probably sitting in the next room, running in and out, being called for from time to time to give help, to take a message, or to go in with a telephone message - that sort of thing.
