are all hand carved and they had to be all regilded. Gold leaf had to be put in. It's all very fine. The hangings are all brand new, but they're of the same quality and color of silk as they were in the old Tammany Hall. All the emblems and portraits are still around.”

He ilung open the door. Here was this very beautiful room with a shallow dome over it. I seem to recall there were no windows in it, though there must have been some somewhere. There were no windows on the side that you saw. Maybe it was lighted from the dome. There was a strange barrioade at one end with a mahogany rail. There was beautiful white painted paneling. There were very handsome chairs - very beautiful chairs. They were Empire in type and very lovely in their curves. Their were beautiful hangings and a great gold eagle with a flag in its mouth draped over some sort of a rostrum. It wasn't really a rostrum. It almost looked like a chancel and altar, but not exactly. I suppose it's like the lodge rooms of some other secret society.

Then he went on to show me where Sachem So-and-so sat - “It was a very historic meeting when So-and-so and So- and-so were here. This is where the sachems sit today. They sit there in their full regalia.”
