supported us well for legislation like that. That was a great help because you went before the legislature with no organized opposition.

They supported us on a good many other small matters. It really was very good. We got support on a good many things. I never broke down their opposition to general coverage of occupational diseases. We finally just licked them in an open vote in the Legislature. However, this conference was a good thing.

I suppose it was because of that that when Iresigned from the Department and became Secretary of Labor, the Associated Industries went out of its way to pass a resolution of praise at always having had a fair deal from me. It was not that I did them any different then anybody else would, but I sort of let them in on the ground floor and listened to them, and agreed with them on many points. We had some very fine manufacturers in New York State. Art-in-Buttons was one of them. I don't know what has become of them now, but they were a model concern.
