in on everything, but that she was giving money liberally. She had lots of money, she was giving it for all she was worth, and she was very useful to them. So we were pleased to be very nice to her. Also, she probably believed that she could do something with the labor vote. They thought she was probably correct when she said she had great influence with working people.

Mrs. Donnelly called for us in front of the Muehlebach Hotel. Irene Gibson wasn't with us the first day or two, but she came later. She was with us later. I don't know whether she was with us then, but anyhow Mrs. Donnelly came for us in a car. We went down and were introduced. She was really gotten up like “some thing.” Her car was something the likes of which I'd never seen. It was a made-to-order, custom made Rolls-Royce. It was painted gray in a day when cars were all painted black. It was a very pretty shade of gray. It had a good deal of glass in it in a day when there was only a little bit of glass in most cars. It was not awfully large, but there was a kind of distinction in its smallness, as though it had been made to order to be not a great huge limousine, but a small limousine that a lady could get around in. It was upholstered in the interior with beautiful green Morocoo leather. The lap robe was of dark green broadcloth to match, lined with Australian possum,
