that Nancy Cook was there. Caroline O'Day was there. I remember primarily Mrs. Sara Roosevelt and Mrs. Parrish. I remember Grace and Fred Greene being there. The regular city politicians were there. I really don't remember very many, as a matter of fact. I don't remember Ed Flynn being there, but if he were there he would have been locked up with the figures. There's always one little room where they keep the door locked. The people who do the figuring stay there and aren't around very much. I remember Frank Walker being there, being interested in the figures and moving in and out. If anybody should come out and say, “I was there. Don't you remember I came out and told you something?”, I would agree that they were there, but at the moment I don't recall the names of people.

The newspaper men were all saying, “Are you going to wait around here? It's all over. You're not going to stay, Miss Perkins, are you?”

I said, “Yes, I'm going to stay. I don't like this business of giving up. I'm going to stay until I hear how this goes.”

Mrs. Sara Roosevelt was there and she wouldn't quit. The time went on and practically everybody had gone. I don't believe there were a dozen people left outside of those who were in the room where the returns were coming in. They
