nothing to it. She did make her debut in New York and had very good notices, but she decided that after you'd done that once it was just a deadly grind.
She studied the law and diverted her attention to that. She went on and at every point she was a better and better lawyer and a better and better lawyer. She practised in Ohio where she lived. She was always being put on bar association committees to do this and bar association committees to look into that. She was a lawyer's lawyer. She was so good that her advice was sought about all kinds of things technically.
When she was first appointed a judge in the lower courts, there was general public acclaim. The bar association and all others felt that it couldn't be better and that she was admirably adapted. She showed herself to have rather an extraordinary judiciary capacity - not only objectivity, but the capacity to make a decision and write an opinion which was educative, not only for the other members of the bar, but educative for the public in general. They understood why it was not only logical, but also good social and public policy. She had a very interesting career. Once she was started there was no end to where she would go.
