the New York Times, you will find that he was the “ace conciliator.” Whenever McGrady's name appears in the paper, when he was hired by the Radio Corporation of American at a big salary, it was printed that he was the “ace conciliator” of the Department of Labor. That was just a phrase to reconcile Toledo to him, instead of my going myself.
I was in hopes that the announcements about President Eisenhower's intention not to hold regular press conferences were true and that was going to be actually carried out. If he didn't hold regular press conferences, well then other people wouldn't be holding regular press conferences. The intrusion of this purely commercial element into affairs of the government would be removed. There is every reason why a certain amount of selected information, which is pertinent and which has to do with the regular operations of government, should be given out with regularity. It will be. Every department knows its duty to make information of that sort available to the people through every medium that there is available, such as the newspapers. But they give it out as it actually is, not with the implication that a newspaper man can put on it with a question such as, “This is your answer to somebody who criticized you?” or “Are you squaring off with someone who is trying to get something away from your Department,” not that this has any
