She said, “Isn't that the darndest? I know that you and Mary didn't plant this on us, but isn't that funny? Myron told me about the time they had in your office a few weeks ago.” She's very amusing and wonderful. “I'm getting curious. I want to meet Mr. Green. Won't you take me over?”
They had been talking together for half or three quarters of an hour. So I took Mrs. Taylor over. I said, “Mrs. Taylor, I want you to know Mr. Green.”
She said, “Yes, I've been dying to meet you, Mr. Green.” Down she sat.
I thought, “I'd just better get somebody else over here,” and I did.
Anyhow, they had a very pleasant time together. Mrs. Taylor came to me afterwards and said, “You know, William Green's a very interesting man, and quite a gentleman, isn't he?”
I said, “On yes, yes. He's a very well-behaved fellow. He's pleasant as he can be.”
I can never tell you how nice he was that night. You would never have known by any batting of the eyelash, any slur, or any offhand remark, that there ever had been anything unpleasant, or that he had ever had his feelings hurt, or that he had ever even known that
