out armed and equipped. There will be all kinds of trucks, all kinds of motor vehicles, all kinds of armed weapons. They will be fully armed and will undertake to operate the service activities of the City of an rancisco. It will create the most terrible resentment and all the trade unions who are not now out will go out. It will create perfectly frightful rosentment. What's more, you know San Francisco. It's a great big, up and coming, independent merican city. They don't take things lying down. There will be great public gatherings. They'll gather in crowds to hoot and jeer at the soldiers driving a bakery wagon through the streets. You know what'll happen. The soldiers will fire. Somebody will get hurt. The rob will attack. A lot of soldiers will come in mass formation. There will be some regular shooting and a lot of people will drop in the streets. I call that very serious. I call it serious for us to call out troops against American citizens who as yet haven't dono anything except inconvenience the community. Sure they've inconvenienced the community, but they haven't committed murder. They haven't rioted. They haven't interfered with the U.S. Mails, which was the excuse in the Pullman strike when Cleveland sent the troops out, in spite of
