“Where are the men? Why aren't they here?”
He said, “Oh, there's no hurry. They're out in the saloons, and eating houses around here, having something to eat or drink. They'll come out in time to sign on.”
Well, of course, slmost immediately, as soon as a lady came in with Tom, whoever was in charge, having read in the papers that I was in San Francisco, at once jumped to the conclusion.
