all reds. There weren't more than two or three at the most if there were that many. At that time nothing showed.

I think it was this same time that I called on Archbishop Hanna. This might have been in '35 or '36. It was after the settlement had been made and they were operating. I don't know who went with me to call on the Archbishop. It was one of our immigration people or conciliators. It might have been Fitzgerald. I called on him to pay my respects and to thank him for what he had done. I went way up on the hill, up beyond the Cathedral, where the Archbishop's house is. We had a very pleasant call.

We talked about Bridges. I said to him, “I suppose you've heard what I learned from the police reports only that this fellow Herry Bridges was brought up in a good strong Catholic home in Australia. I thought it might interest you to know that, Your Excellency.”

He said, “Well, yes, I do know it. I'll tell you something else. This is very private and I wouldn't want to tell many people, because this is just within the church. It has to do with spiritual life and the souls of other people. A few weeks ago Harry Bridges and his wife went to see the Mother Superior of this convent where they run a good girls' school to ask if their daughter
