of Washington. He picked them up while it was still daylight and was thus sure of his identification. The place was some distance from Seattle, but not too far to drive. There there was a secret night meeting of the Communists. He stated that he knew it to be a Communist meeting from the conversation that he overheard as their chauffeur. Also, he had gone up into the hall and was asked if he could come in. He was told, “No, it was a secret party meeting and he couldn't come in.”

I don't think the affidavit showed this, but my first question was, “How did this man happen to be allowed to be a chauffeur? Why did they take this informer as a chauffeur?” We were a long time finding that out. He had wormed himself into some kind of a confidential relationship with the members and they thought he was one of the outer ring, though not the inner ring. That was the final explanation. We didn't get that for some time.

I find myself not very clear as to the order of events. I think I may be bringing into an earlier date things that happened, or things that I knew later, which I couldn't possibly have known at the time. I'm still not very clear as to what we know about Bridges. I asked somebody the other night about this and am toli that I have a full written report of exactly what happened and
