but you don't despise him for it. He wanted his girl to go to Wellesley instead of going to one of the Catholic colleges where she could have gotten in without any trouble. He came to me and he came to Mary Dewson, quietly and privately, to help him and adivse him about getting his girl into Wellesley College. He said, “I just want her to go to Wellesley. Don't you think that's a fine institution?”

I said, “I think it's a fine institution.”

He said, “Of course, she could get into any of these Catholic colleges. They'd jump for her. But I would like to have her more like other people.”

As a matter of fact, I think the reason he picked Wellesley was that Mary Dewson was a graduate of Wellesley and he admired her prodigiously. He thought that if he could get his girl into Wellesley, she would be as good as Mary Dewson. It was that sort of thing. Well, his girls happen to be very superior girls. They're very fine girls. I didn't have to put my tongue in my cheek at all in order to recommend them for entrance into Wellesley. They're quite superior in character. They've had very high IQs. They passed first-class examinations, and all that. But they also had the quality of people who will grow and will be good citizens, will be worthy
