anti-Semitic in the sense that he was a Hitler, but he had the same anti-Semitism that say ninety percent of the comfortably placed Americans have. You know--no denying it, they have got a trace of anti-Semitism, just automatically, without ever giving it a thought. I don't think he gave it a thought, except that he disliked Hillman, who was stealing his power.

Interviewer:

Yes, so he'd reach for something to bludge on Hillman with.

Perkins:

Yes, but I think he had a trace of it, I think he had a touch of it everywhere. He was very capricious about Leo Wolman because he was a Jew.

Interviewer:

He seemed to be capricious about everything.

Perkins:

Well, I don't think he was so capricious. If you think of him in terms of a man who was saturated with pride--

Interviewer:

And dedicated to himself.

Perkins:

Dedicated to himself.

Interviewer:

He was a dedicated man, wasn't he?

Perkins:

Yes, but you see, he was dedicated also to the
