Perkins:

I didn't care. Why should I care?

The President kept my confidence pretty well. He didn't tell the Army that I had been the one that took the plum out of their fingers. I mean, the Army really wanted to go in there and put them miners in their place, you know. They thought they could do it. They saw themselves--you know--shooting it out.
