Theoretical High Energy Physics

The Columbia University Department of Physics is seeking to make a senior appointment in theoretical high energy physics (broadly interpreted). Senior Laboratory Technician, Department of Physics 

Job Description:

Under the supervision of the faculty and senior staff, the incumbent will be responsible for all equipment used for Physics Department instructional labs; works closely with faculty and staff to construct new experiments; coordinates equipment set-ups and ensures proper storage, maintenance and cataloging; procures, constructs, tests and troubleshoots equipment; researches and procures electronic and related components, and equipment for stock and special projects; maintains the component stockroom; maintains electronic database of laboratory equipment; works on special projects; coordinates with other specialists including machinist and lecture demonstration technician; performs duties under the instruction of faculty and senior staff or from engineering drawings.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree, preferably in Physics or a closely related subject. Extensive proven experience can substitute for educational requirements.  Knowledge of electronics, standard test equipment, instrumentation and data acquisition; strong mechanical aptitude; computer-literacy. 

The position is a full-time, support staff position, starting July 1, 2013.
