RESOLUTION
CONCERNING THE NAME CHANGE OF THE DEPARTMENT OF
CHEMICAL
ENGINEERING AND APPLIED CHEMISTRY
WHEREAS, the Department of Chemical Engineering and
Applied Chemistry, the faculty of the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and
Applied Science, and the Provost of the University have approved a change of
name for that department which better reflects the strategic plan for the
Department, and
WHEREAS, the amended name best reflects the
Department's renewed commitment to build a strong chemical engineering program,
and
WHEREAS it is important to the Department's quest
to become a top 20 program that the department name reflect a focus that is
easily identified by prospective students and the University's peer
institutions, and
WHEREAS, a strong Chemical Engineering program,
independent of but collaborative with the Chemistry Department, is to the best
advantage of both the Department and the University, and
WHEREAS, the Committee on Education has favorably
received the request for a change of name,
THEREFORE
BE IT RESOLVED, that the University
Senate approve the change in name of the Department of Chemical Engineering and
Applied Chemistry to the Department of Chemical Engineering, and
BE IT
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the University
Senate request the Trustees to amend Section 40 of Chapter IV of the Statutes
of the University and paragraph (3) of Subsection a of Section 153 of Chapter
XV of the Statutes of the University to reflect this change.
