Kay M. Johnson teaches clinical practice classes at Columbia School of Social Work.  She received her MS from Columbia in 1986.

Ms. Johnson has over 20 years experience as a director, supervisor, clinician, and consultant/trainer in outpatient and residential substance abuse and mental health programs.  Her specialty is working with trauma and co-occurring disorders. She currently works at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Crime Victims Treatment Center in New York City. Ms. Johnson has worked on several research projects in the US and Canada (“Seeking Safety: Psychotherapy for PTSD and Substance Abuse”; “Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Pathological Gambling”; “A Pilot Study of Seeking Safety Therapy for Problem Gamblers”). She currently is the principle investigator of a pilot study - “A Past Focused Treatment for PTSD and Substance Abuse”. She has presented workshops and staff training in the United States and Canada on PTSD, addiction, trauma-informed environments, and Seeking Safety.
