Christine Theuma Wilkins, Ph.D., LCSW received her MSW from University of Toronto in 1997 and a Ph.D. in Clinical Social Work from NYU in May 2011. Her qualitative dissertation study centered on men with a history of violence towards their female partners, and explored their understanding of their behavior.
Dr. Wilkins has worked in domestic violence since 1994, when she co-founded Malta's first domestic violence agency, initiated a domestic violence hotline, and helped draft that country's first domestic violence legislation. She has since engaged in direct intervention with women survivors of intimate partner violence, group work with men with a history of violence, and program and policy development in several countries. She is currently domestic violence coordinator at NYU Langone Medical Center, where she is also a Social Work Supervisor.
Her academic interests include intimate partner violence, pediatric hospital social work, pediatric oncology, palliative care, clinical practice with individuals and families, group work practice, and qualitative social work research.
