Professor Craig Schwalbe Appointed William T. Grant Scholar

New York, NY - Dr. Craig Schwalbe, assistant professor at the Columbia University School of Social Work, has been appointed a William T. Grant Foundation Scholar. The Foundation’s Scholars Program “supports the professional development of early-career researchers from diverse disciplines, who have demonstrated success in conducting high-quality research and who are seeking to further develop their skills and research.”

Dr. Schwalbe is among four finalists selected from a pool of 70 applicants.  He will receive an award of $350,000 over five years for his research entitled, “Social Processes in Juvenile Probation.”  Dr. Schwalbe has practice in case management, individual therapy, and group therapy for children and families involved with the child welfare and children's mental health systems, as well as with seriously mentally ill adults in the mental health system.  He also has a background in program development and program administration.  His research explores the effects of probation programs on the resilience of youthful offenders in the juvenile justice system.

The William T. Grant Scholars Program has a 27-year history of supporting early-career researchers in the social and behavioral sciences.  One hundred thirty-four Scholars have been named over the nearly three decades of the program.
