Society For Social Work Research Honors CUSSW
With 4 Awards
At the most recent Society for Social Work Research Annual
Meeting, CUSSW was honored with four top awards. Out of five
possible award categories, the following four awards were
granted to CUSSW students and professors - past and present
- for outstanding achievements in research:
A Lifetime Achievement Award went to David Fanshel, former
CUSSW professor now retired.
The 2004 Outstanding Research Award went to CUSSW professor
Jane Waldfogel, assistant professor Wen Han and their colleague
Jeanne Brooks-Gunn of Teacher's College for their article
"Maternal Employment and Child Cognitive Outcomes in
the First Three Years of Life: The NICHD Study of Early Child
Care."
The 2004 Outstanding Social Work Dissertation Award went
to CUSSW doctoral graduate Rogerio M. Pinto for "Factors
that Influence African-American Women's Participation in HIV
Prevention Programs: An Ecological Perspective."
An honorable mention for the 2004 Outstanding Dissertation
Award went to CUSSW doctoral graduate Brian Lam for his dissertation
"Psychological Distress Among Vietnamese American Adolescents:
Toward an Ecological Model."
Fittingly, the awards were presented by Tom Insel, director
of the National Institute of Mental Health and the School's
Fall 2003 Distinguished Visiting Scholar, whose mother Ruth
Insel is a CUSSW alumna. Congratulations all!
