CUSSW Announces Spring 2007 Program for Wednesday Series

New York, NY – The Columbia University School of Social Work is launching its spring 2007 Wednesday Series program on January 24 th. The Series will open with a special lecture by Dr. Katherine Shear, the Marion E. Kenworthy Professor of Psychiatry in Social Work, entitled “ Clinical Social Work in the 21st Century: A Psychiatrist's Perspective on an Urgent Agenda.”

Others scheduled speakers for this semester include:

• Dr. Peggy Drexler, Assistant Professor of Psychology in Psychiatry, Weill Medical College of Cornell University
• Monika Heimbold, Founder, The Heimbold Foundation
• Noeleen Heyzer, Executive Director, UNIFEM
• Wahida Karmally, Director of Nutrition, The Irving Center for Clinical Research, Columbia University
• Nina Berman, Documentary Photographer
• Dr. Tony Tripodi, Dean and Professor Emeritus, Ohio State University; the Visiting Moses Professor of Social Work, Hunter College

Initiated in 2002, the Wednesday Series was developed to foster explorations of interdisciplinary scholarship, policy, and practice and to highlight diverse social justice issues. The Series features scholars, alumni, national experts and luminaries who are invited to speak on current topics that could have implications for the social work profession. Past speakers have included anthropologist Dr. Arthur Kleinman, United Nations Ambassador Shirin Tahir-Kheli and international photographer Eugene Richards.
