Dr. Craig Schwalbe Promoted to Associate Professor at the Columbia University School of Social Work

Columbia University School of Social Work is pleased to announce the promotion of Craig Schwalbe from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor.

Associate Professor Schwalbe’s research focus includes the assessment and treatment of delinquent youths within the juvenile justice and related systems. His scholarly publications and ongoing research specifically concern systematic strategies for assessing youth at risk of chronic delinquency and interventions by court personnel to reduce the likelihood of repeat offenses. He was selected a William T. Grant Fellow and has received research funding support from the W.T. Grant Foundation to examine how the effects and the quality of the working alliance involving youth and probation officers are predicted by the beliefs and behaviors of youth and probation officers and influenced by  parental support of probation, gender, and race.

Associate Professor Schwalbe has been a member of the Jordan Social Work Education for Excellence Program core faculty team and is one of three principal investigators for a community-based research study in Jordan funded by UNICEF.

Associate Professor Schwalbe has more than a decade of professional social work practice experience, providing individual and group therapy and case management to children and families involved with the child welfare and the children's and adult mental health systems. In the case of the latter, his practice experience has been with seriously mentally ill adults in the mental health system.   

The Columbia University School of Social Work faculty, staff and students extend their congratulations to Dr. Craig Schwalbe upon the occasion of his promotion to associate professor.
