CUSSW 2007 Commencement

A Profile of the 2007 Graduating Class

On May 16, 384 members of the CUSSW graduating class of 2007 received degrees, 374 from the Master's Program and 10 from the Doctoral Program. The largest proportion (30%) of 2007 Master's Program graduates chose Health/Mental Health/Disabilities as their field of practice, followed by Family and Children's Services (27%) and Contemporary Social Issues (15%).

Advanced clinical practice was the chosen method of practice by 50% of graduating students. Seven graduating students were part of the CUSSW-Open Society Institute's Soros Fellowship Program.

CUSSW graduates are also internationally diverse. Seven percent of our 2007 graduates come from countries other than the U.S., including Azerbaijan, Canada, Columbia, Georgia, Ghana, India, Israel, Japan, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Singapore, South Korea, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Venezuela.

The CUSSW Class of 2007 has a richness of ethnic diversity as well. Eleven percent are of Asian or Pacific ancestry, 9% are of African-American descent, 4% are of Hispanic heritage, 4% are Mexican, and 2% are of South East Asian descent.

Many 2007 CUSSW graduates have earned two degrees. 21 students are graduating with a Master of Science degree from the School of Social Work as well as an additional degree from: Bank Street College of Education (4); Jewish Theological Seminary (2); Columbia Business School (1); Columbia School of International and Public Affairs (6); School of Public Health (6); and Union Theological Seminary (2).
