Dr. Ellen Lukens Promoted to Professor of Professional Practice at CUSSW
Dr. Ellen Lukens has been approved by the Trustees of Columbia University for promotion to professor of professional practice.
Professor Lukens has a long record of accomplishments as a member of the faculty who has expertise in clinical practice. She is renowned for her leadership in the development and use of educational and psychoeducational interventions for adolescents, adults, and families that are facing life challenges such as trauma, chronic illness, and mental illness. Along with Dr. Lauren Gates, she led a very much heralded effort to develop an evidence-based clinical practice
curriculum for the New York State Office of Mental Health. The outcomes of that initiative have had a transformative effect on social work education related to the preparation of professionals who will provide mental health services. Dr. Lukens is also held in the highest regard at the Psychiatric Institute, where she continues to play a very important role. She is the current Sylvia D. and Mose J. Firestone Centennial Professor of Clinical Social Work.
Dr. Lukens is a master educator, a scholar who has contributed much to social work practice, and she has been a fine citizen of the School, the University, and the larger social work and New York communities. The faculty, staff, and students of the Columbia University School of Social
