Columbia University Doctoral Student Selected as Fellow in CSWE Program

Columbia University School of Social Work doctoral candidate Yamile Marti has been selected as a fellow to Council on Social Work Education’s (CSWE) Minority Fellowship Program.

Created in 1978, the fellowship program is administered by CSWE, the sole accrediting agency for social work education in the U.S.  The program is designed for social workers who are preparing for leadership, teaching, consulting, training, policy development, and administration in mental health and substance abuse with ethnic minorities. Fellows are selected “for their commitment to excellence in mental health and substance abuse services and research that will improve the social well-being of minority communities.” Ms. Marti will join five other fellows selected from universities across the country for the 2010-2011 cohort. 

Ms. Marti entered the doctoral program at Columbia University in fall 2009. Her research is focused on the development of resiliency and coping skills for children and families in crisis or facing adversity and the implementation and evaluation of evidence-based interventions that foster positive mental health in children and adolescents.
