The Office of Faculty Affairs ensures the continued excellence of Columbia's faculty and academic community. The office is responsible for: administering the University's policies and processes governing academic appointments, and the statutory provisions governing faculty service; managing the University's system of tenure reviews; authorizing leaves on behalf of the President; negotiating faculty retirement agreements; working with the University Senate, and its subcommittees, on many issues including faculty-related surveys and studies, and maintaining fair processes in handling grievances from academic officers; assisting with the development of programs that help faculty members advance their careers; and the collection and analysis of data to assess the effectiveness of current faculty programs, and to identify and explore issues of importance to the University.
