The patient is a 13-year-old girl who was referred from her primary care physician for an ovarian mass which was discovered on a routine physical exam with no associated symptoms or complaints of abdominal pain. Her serum HCG was less than 2 (nl <5 in non-pregnant females) and her serum alphafetoprotein (AFP) was 1 (nl 0-8.5 ng/ml). CT scan of the abdomen and pelvis revealed a large right ovarian mass with fluid in it. The patient had a unilateral oophorectomy on 8/3/00 at CPMC with a satisfactory post-op course and was discharged three days later.
