claim that he not only beat me, but he also beat Whitney North Seymour, Jr., who that same year was the Republican candidate for the Assembly and he went on and beat him after he beat me in the primary, and it was Seymour that I beat when I ran for Congress. So Passannante can say he's a giant killer. But, as I say, if I had won that, I probably would still be in Albany. that's really the heart of it. And that's really what I'm saying. It was the best thing that ever happened to me.
Incidentally, just as a footnote, Whitney North Seymour did go in to go to the state senate.
He went to the state senate probably in 1966, because in '64 Fred Berman won, beating MacNeil Mitchell is my recollection. He was just a one-termer, and then Seymour became state senator.
I'd like to pick up a couple of things on Lanigan here before we get too far from it and a little flashback before then. First of all, do you recall just why Herman Greitzer became the first candidate to run for district leader against Carmine DeSapio?
