That would add to it. But he tried to work out a club with Bill Passannante and Bill was smart enough not to.
Incidentally, I wanted to come to Passannante, too. This is jumping here, but after the VID became a regular club, Passannante joined the VID.
I brought him in. You want me to tell you how I did that?
Yes.
So I lost the fight for the Assembly -- it's now '62 -- and I then run for president of the club, and I win the presidency by a very narrow margin. Some real schmucky guy, John Herzog, a nothing guy, ran against me, and I got 119 votes, and he got 100 votes; and when you consider that I'd been the candidate of the club for the Assembly and I'd worked so hard -- he'd really been nothing -- you could see the enormous antagonism towards me at that time within the VID. But I was a hairshirt kind of guy. Well, they just didn't want me. I won, but it was such a narrow victory; it really wasn't very good for one's personality development.
In any event, I decided that what I would do was try to bring that club together in some way or other. And I did. I am a very good organizer, and I got all the factions together and
