Now, Hill is beyond all compare the greatest ally in the Senate. He's motivated, I think I've told you, because his father was a doctor and had a tremendous influence on him and his father was a pupil of Lord Lister, the great discoverer of antisepsis. I think I told you of our relationship, that Florence Mahoney had the idea that he must be the one that took the committee chairmanship after Chavez gave it up for the $50 billion of defense money that he could give out as chairman of the Armed Services Sub-committee. Hill could have chosen anything he wanted, and has since been able to refuse Armed Services. Did I tell you about his refusing Armed Services Sub-committee?

Q:

No.

Lasker:

I think I must have told you about this, didn't I?

Q:

No, you told me about Chavez.

Lasker:

About a year ago last winter the Armed Services Sub-committee came up, and you know what a fantastic power this is. Hill spoke to me on the phone and said, “I don't know--I think I might take this.”

I said, “Why would yo do such a thing?”
