“No.”

“Are you a lawyer?”

“No.”

He went on with a few more questions, then said, “This person is no expert at all. I absolutely challenge her right to be heard.”

Smith said, “Let me ask her a few questions. What's your profession?”

“I'm a social worker.”

“Have you ever made social investigations?”

“Yes sir.”

“Have you ever been in any factories?”

“Yes sir.”

“How many have you been in?”

I thought quickly and made a big guess of so many thousands.

“Have you ever been in bakeries?”

“Yes sir.”

“Have you ever been in cellar bakeries in the city of New York?”

“Yes sir.”

“How many have you been in?”

“Four hundred and fifty-two.”

“Did you make a record of what you saw in every bakery?”
