associated with us in this group that was trying to devise laws for fire prevention for the building of buildings in such a way that they wouldn't burn up their contents, died. We had become acquainted with her then.

She had later married Henry Moskowitz whom I had also known. He lived at the University Settlement and he was also in the preliminaries of the Fusion Campaign. He was a considerable person. He married her and how they happened to marry I don't know.

She was a great Republican and had been a great supporter of Governor Whitman when he was running for office and after he went into office. He promised her something. I don't think it was a personal appointment to anything. I think it was some project that she was concerned and interested in that he had promised her he would do something about. He had double-crossed her, so she said. He had promised and hadn't done anything. Then he had promised again and then had done something else, or listened to someone else. Anyhow she became enraged at him. She had supported him when he was being nominated and he had anticipated her support. She hadn't become a political figure of any consequence at that time and I don't think she'd done much campaigning. She was a good woman and had had two very good and very intelligent husbands, but she hadn't become any kind of a figure and hadn't
