These are the refreshments that they're bringing, which come afterwards. During the month of May every afternoon about four o'clock after school is over there'll be a whole stream of them - eight or ten every afternoon. These maypoles were Tammany Hall projects. They came out from the clubs. The Appawomis Club would have its May outing. The May outing starts in the club and marches to Central Park. Of course if the club is way off somewhere they come in buses to the park. That's run by the Tammany Hall clubs. These little district places are still clubs. They started as clubs and they were meant to cement this fine feeling.
