I got a great idea from that, although I said nothing to him about it. I thought to myself, “Maybe I can get some recent graduates of Fordham Law School who have been trained that way.” I made an experiment. The next time I had a vacancy to which to appoint I called up the President of Fordham and asked him to give me a good introduction to the head of the law school, which he did, who came down to see me. I wanted some absolutely A-1 people - young, imaginative, vigorous, intelligent, trained in philosophy, so that they could take on this social duty and not be just bone-dry judges because the element of law in the matter was the easiest part of it in a way.
