afraid to say so. But Dubinsky's people weren't afraid. They were very great assets.

The medical outfit that they maintained was very helpful because they were always digging up illnesses that had their origin in some special plant. If there were several things, we'd go make an inspection and would find what was wrong. But they would give us the tip and the information.

I saw those people all the time about one thing or another. Fania Cohn was one of my great assets. She'd dead now, poor thing. She was wonderful and died only four or five years ago. She was just grand. I could get her on a committee any time and she'd be willing to serve. She'd serve so competently. She said and did just the right things. She'd take the hints that you wanted her to. She'd present things from the union point of view, quite impassionately, but she took her facts from you in the government, because you knew the situation. She was a very effective committee member.

Dubinsky would send us other people. Dr. George Price, who was the head of their Medical Department, was on ever so many committees. He was a kind of perennial member of committees.

I would say that Dubinsky developed a sense of social justice pretty early. I think he was first of all a trade
