in my book I have down Syracuse instead of Rochester for the place of the convention. We had had a good many of them in Syracuse, and between Syracuse and Rochester in my memory I can't tell the difference when we come to conventions.

There was talk, talk, talk all through the convention. I know that Smith and Farley before that time had thought about Roosevelt. Mrs. Moskowitz had told me that the Governor had thought that Frank Roosevelt ought to do this, and that Frank Roosevelt could do it, and that Frank Roosevelt could be elected, and that he wanted Frank Roosevelt, and that was what he was pushing for. I remember saying, “Do you think that the others will go along with him?”

She said, “Yes, they will. If the Governor wants it, they'll go along.”

Smith dictated that move. The others were perfectly willing to go along, but Smith had the deeper feeling about it. I know Mrs. Moskowitz was very anxious to have it take place. She thought Roosevelt was fine. She thought a great deal of Mrs. Roosevelt. They were great friends, really great friends. They'd worked together on the Smith campaigns for Governor. He was Governor four times. Each time he had to be elected. Each time there was a campaign. Mrs. Roosevelt had worked on the committees and had worked with Mrs. Moskowitz.
