eight or ten people in the hall sitting quietly in their seats. I came back and said, “There's nobody in the hall. They haven't been able to get a meeting.”

Then we began hearing noises in the streets - shouting and so on. Then Harry Hawes came back wiping his forehead. “We'll get the meeting,” he said. “I've gotten in touch with some people. They'll be coming in. We knew that some of them were going to boycott the meeting and that there were some fellows out there telling people they couldn't go in, forbidding them to go in.
