companies. He uttered a lot of wild charges at which you'd be very mad if you got mad easily.

One understood why people like Bob Moses quarreled with him so much. Lots of people quarreled with him all the time, although he made a very good mayor.

He ran for mayor in 1929, but was defeated and I don't remember him as too large a factor in that campaign. I don't remember that LaGuardia made too much of an impression. I think some of the old Fusion outfit were in back of him, though he ran as a Republican. What the people who had been in the works of the Fusion movement in the Mitchel administration did, or who they voted for, I really don't know. I'm sure they were not satisfied with Walker and I don't think they supported LaGuardia. I don't think the effective, active people who had been in the Mitchel administration were happy about Walker, although the scandals hadn't broken yet. I wouldn't be surprised if many of them didn't vote at all. It was a sort of a draw. They didn't think much of LaGuardia. They didn't think much of Walker. However, the city was going all right so far as anybody could so. People were reasonably comfortable under Walker's administration. His technique of not permitting the Prohibition Act to be enforced in New York was very popular in New York.
