is there. The faculty is there. I have no way of judging what is the quality of education at Fordham, but it's a much used institution for persons who are resident in and around New York City and haven't got either the wherewithal or the preliminary scholarly qualifications to get into Harvard, Yale or some such place.
I remember thinking, as Flynn aired himself on one occasion when I didn't know him very well, that he really made an awfully good impression of a new type of leader. Yet he was thoroughly on to all the old tricks - completely on to them. Yet he evaluated them in a kind of cynical way that could only have come from one who had delved into the academic world and had read books on politics and so forth, and who evaluated the electorate perhaps cynically, but exactly as is the right way to evaluate the electorate. Who am I to know?
On one occasion he talked, I remember, about group voting and about the Italians who had moved into the Bronx and about how you keep the Italians with you. Recognition of individuals and of Italianism does more for them than actual patronage. They don't bother you as much about patronage as the Irish do, but they love celebrations of San Felipina. If you'll come to those and make a speech on the little local holidays, they like it better. They
